Jamdede Receives Modern 22-Seater Toilet Facility Through Public–Private Partnership

Residents of Jamdede in the Berekum West Constituency have received a significant sanitation upgrade following the completion and commissioning of a modern public toilet facility developed through a partnership between O. V Ohios Company Limited and the Berekum West District Assembly.

The project was implemented under a Build–Operate–Transfer (BOT) agreement to provide the community with a sustainable and well-managed sanitation facility.

For years, residents of Jamdede faced difficulties due to the lack of a proper public place of convenience. Recognizing this challenge, the then District Chief Executive for Berekum West, Dominic Oppong, invited O. V Ohios Company Limited to explore a viable solution.

Following discussions, both parties agreed on a Build–Operate–Transfer (BOT) arrangement where the private investor would finance and construct the facility, operate it for an agreed period, and eventually transfer ownership to the District Assembly.

The project, which began in 2024, was led by Dr. Clement Amofa-Boakye on behalf of O. V. Ohios Company Limited.

The completed infrastructure is a 22-seater Water Closet (WC) toilet facility, designed to improve sanitation standards within the community. The facility also includes provisions for persons with physical disabilities, ensuring accessibility and inclusivity for all users.

The total investment for the project is GHS 831,558.32, fully funded by the private investor under the BOT arrangement.

The facility was officially commissioned on Sunday, March 8, in a ceremony attended by community leaders, government officials, and representatives of the project partners.

Among the dignitaries present were Hon Dickson Kyere-Duah, MP-Berekum West, Hon Collins Asoma, DCE-Berekum West, Nana Boakye Agyei, Jamdede Hene, and Dr Clement Amofa-Boakye

Following the commissioning, the facility began a three-month joint test operation on March 16, managed collaboratively by O. V Ohios Company Limited and the Berekum West District Assembly.

During this period, both parties will assess the facility's average monthly revenue generation. The data gathered will help determine the duration for which the investor will operate the facility before it is eventually transferred to the Assembly under the BOT agreement.

This initiative demonstrates how public–private partnerships can effectively address infrastructure gaps at the community level. By combining the Assembly’s commitment to public service with private sector investment, the project provides a sustainable solution to a critical sanitation challenge.

Beyond improving convenience, the facility is expected to contribute significantly to better hygiene, environmental sanitation, and public health in Jamdede and surrounding communities.

The Jamdede project stands as a strong example of how collaboration between local government, private investors, and traditional leadership can deliver impactful development for communities.
