The Assemblyman for Ahenbronoso Electoral Area, Hon. Michael Oteng Twum, on October 11, 2025, led a massive clean-up exercise at the Berekum Cemetery in the Bono Region.
The event, which saw strong participation from the youth and community members, aimed to address growing concerns about safety and sanitation in the area. The overgrown bushes and poor lighting around the cemetery had turned it into a hideout for criminals and reptiles, posing serious dangers to residents and passersby — particularly at night, when incidents of phone snatching and theft had been reported.
Hon. Michael Oteng Twum expressed deep gratitude to the community for their support and commitment. He emphasized that the exercise was not only about cleaning but also about promoting safety, restoring dignity, and fostering community ownership of the cemetery.
He further disclosed plans to collaborate with the Municipal Chief Executive, Hon. Hajia Fati, and the Member of Parliament, Hon. Simon Ampabeng Kyeremeh, to improve street lighting and ensure that the cemetery remains clean and secure at all times.
The initiative has received widespread commendation from residents. Many participants pledged their support for future community development projects led by Hon. Michael Oteng Twum. Meanwhile, the youth have vowed to form a community watchdog committee to monitor and safeguard the cemetery, helping to prevent any criminal activity, especially during the night.
